You know, many people have the perception of DIY as boring work but in fact DIY home improvements can be fun if you go at them with the right attitude. There is nothing more satisfying than finishing a work of art that you had not thought yourself capable of.
There are so many projects around the house that need doing in any home and the trick is not to get yourself bogged down. Plan your work into small chunks rather than taking on Mount Everest and you will find that it is much more fun.
Build your confidence slowly and start with small tasks at first. Only do what you are capable of and take the time to do it properly. Make sure that you are in the right mood before you start and set yourself little targets along the way.
Intersperse the boring routine jobs with fun ones which will get you back in the mood – a series of quick wins to fortify yourself against the less exciting ones.
Let yourself have some fun too. If you are working on a boring job such as sanding, then turn up the music and let yourself have breaks on a regular basis. It will be worth it in the end when you realise exactly how much you have achieved – and how much money you have saved doing it yourself.
